Creating a CNAME record for any of the domain addresses or subdomains that you have in the hosting account will permit you to point it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded domain address will lose all its records - A, MX etc, and will take the records of the Internet domain it's being pointed to. In this light, you can't set up a CNAME record to redirect your domain name to a third-party provider and keep a working email service with the first hosting company. It is also important to note that a CNAME record is always a string of words and never a number as it is generally mistaken for the A record of the domain address being redirected. One of the primary uses of a CNAME record is to forward a domain address which you own through one company to the servers of another provider assuming you have set up an Internet site with the latter. By doing this, the website will appear under your own domain name, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party provider.

CNAME Records in Shared Hosting

You can easily create CNAME records if you have a shared plan with our company. We'll provide you with an easy-to-use CP which allows you to observe all DNS records for the domains and subdomains that are hosted inside the account. Setting up a CNAME record involves a number of easy steps - pick the domain/subdomain, select CNAME as the type, enter the hostname you are forwarding to, after that simply click on the Save button. The procedure is as easy as that and the new record will be active almost instantly. That way, you will have more control over your domains and subdomains and over the content they open, you could create a private URL for company e-mails, and more. If you feel unsure about how to create a new record or you have never done such a task, we have a short video tutorial where you can see the whole process first-hand. If you choose to modify or delete an existing CNAME record created for a domain/subdomain hosted on our end, it'll take you literally only a click to get it done.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server with our company and you wish to create a CNAME record, it takes just a few mouse clicks to complete this task. The plans are handled through our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP where you will see a section devoted to the DNS records of the domain addresses and subdomains hosted in the account. To set up a CNAME record, you'll simply have to choose the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), enter where the latter is going to be forwarded to and save the change.
